Guys:

That was a wonderful concert Tuesday wasn't it. Be sure that you practice over the Christmas vacation. Espicially if you are trying out for all state, which I recommend all of you do. If you still don't have your music talk to me and I will help you get it. Also be sure that you memorize all 12 scales and both minor scales. Merry Christmas!!!

Sectional November 18, 2008

Saxes,
We have a sectional Wednesday, November 18, after school at 3:15. Mr. McDaniel didn't give me an ending time, but it will probably go to about 4:00. Also, don't forget about Thursday's full band rehearsal from 3:20-4:30. Be there or be square!!!

ATTENTION SAXES!!!

Today is Wednesday and I brought our costumes to school with me. I want you all to take your uniforms home and zombify them. Make every know that you are a zombie who was killed in the manner that your costume represents. For instance, Travin you are to look like a doctor who got shot in the head. Also everyone needs to be wearing shoes that match your costume as well as marching compatible.

Remember to bring your costumes to school tomorrow. Be sure that if you go home tomorrow after school, that you are back by 3:45 so Lisa and I can put your make-up on and take care of any wardrobe malfunctions.

Good News!

Keith Taylor, sports producer at ABC 33/40 sent an email stating, "I'm currently putting together tomorrow night's Friday Night Blitz show, and would love to make your band our "Blitz Band of the Week." "
How GREAT you guys! So set your VCR's or TiVo or whatever for ABC 33/40 at 10:30, so that you can see the show. You know we will probably still be on a bus somewhere. They are using clips from the Pell City game.
Congrats everyone!

Halloween Stuff for the Last Time

We finally got our costumes. Marcus is a dead Hawain Surfer, Lisa is a dead hillbilly, Travin is a dead doctor who got shot in the head, Corneshia is an old lady dressed in beautiful church clothes and a Sunday dress hat, (as if she had been buried and came back as a zombie)Christian is my favorite... Christian, you are going to be a cold minor who died doing that profession. Your clothes are clothes that a minor would wear and are covered in coal that I have at my house (charcoal) you also have a minor hat that completes the look, and mine is also a Hillbilly but maybe just the kind of mountain person who is canibal...

Another thing, do you guys want to have a Halloween Party at my expense? If so please post some comments guys, give me some ideas as well as a time that you want to do it, if I hear back from you guys I will definitly schedule a party for us, but you have to let me know if ya'll want to do it.

Halloween Stuff (for the 3'rd time)

Guys we're gonna go this Wednesday and get our Halloween attire, so if you haven't paid your $10 you need to do so sometime before 3:oo Wednesday!!! _Christian, Marcus, and Travin still need to give their money to either Lisa or Blake... (That's me!)

Guys...

I want everyone to keep the Bridges family in their prayers. It must be a tough time for them, but prayer is always the best medicine for anything you come across in life... God is all mighty and powerful!!!

Halloween... Again...

It didn't work out for us to go to the thrift store last Wednesday, we didn't realize that we were going to have practice. Therefore we're gonna have to go this Wednesday. If you haven't paid your $10 then you have a few more days... Remember, if you don't pay your dues, then come Halloween, you're gonna have the blues when you don't have a costume. Also if you guys want to have the sax bonfire, then you need to tell me because I need to tell my Aunt!!!

Homecoming!!

The big game is finally here!!! Unfortunatly the weather forecast is for rain!!! Oh well we're still gonna have just as much fun and were still gonna go crazy with spirit in the stands.

Today

Marcus, Lisa, Travin, and I are going to the thrift store today after school.... We reminded you guys to bring $10 but if you forgot I need the money... Not only do we have to get costumes, but make-up for everyone and its not very cheap.

We saxes have a mission!

Guys, ya'll really need to be working on scales. Sclaes are not only necessary to make all-state, all-county, chair auditions, etc.; but scales make you an all around better player and you will be unstopable! Your main goal as a muscian should be to be able to play anything and sound good doing it. Marcus, Lisa, Travin, Christian, and Corneshia; you guys have the potential to be the best saxophone section around, as well as the best musicians to ever walk through Talladega High, all you must do is practice, practice, practice and we will be the best section around, not to mention the best friendsaround... I really do love all you guys!!!

Saxes should read this!

Guys, We haven't had a gathering in a while and I was thinking about next weekend going to the bowling alley, what do you guys think? Oh yea, ya'll never told me what you think about going to Ruth Helen's and we can't make plans until I know for sure if you guys will be willing to go...

Post some comments guys, the website is going to be our main way of communication!!!

Halloween!!!

Guys it's final, were going to be "The Thrift Store Zombies". Marcus, Lisa, and I are going to go to the thrift store and get different types of clothing and were going to get a type of clothing that is opposite of our personality. My mom can do professional makeup work, so we will meet at my house after school that day and get our costumes on... I'll give you more details as I get them!!!

TRAVIN DYE [IN MEMPHIS]

"Saxomaphones"

Guys tomorrow after school we have practice be there or be square! {and in trouble}
Friday is our first full show at home so I hope everbody's ready to bust our bottoms at practice so that Friday we will have the best run ever and make the city love us even more! I'm looking forward to it and I hope ya'll are to.

Saxophone Gathering!

I am friends with Ruth Helen, owner of Bkuebird Realty, and she has invited us, as saxes, to come to her house sometime soon and have a bahn fire, and just hang out. (Not in her front lawn Marcus but in her forest) She is a really great friend and I consider her my aunt so I want us all to have fun but be on somewhat of our best behavior...

I don't know a date because she wanted me to ask if yall wanted to do it... Comment NOW!

Practice Tuesday!... Holes

Why were so many saxes out Tuesday? We couldn't fix anything because of all the holes. From now on let's be sure we're at practice, espicially if we are at school that day!!!

All-State

Everyone of us need to try out for all-state. If you can't get the prepared pieces off the website ask me and I'll take care of it... Also if you need help on scales or prepared pieces don't be afraid to ask me and if I can't help you we'll go to the "big guy".

Pictures

If anyone has any pictures that they want me to put on our blog, then e-mail them to snakeinthebasement@yahoo.com and I will put them on here asap...
The only pictures I have are from last year.

HOMECOMING

Guys,
Let's have the most school spirit during homecoming. Let's all do all the activities to the extreme!!!

THE 7 DEADLIEST SINS (- 1)

Guys in case you haven't noticed we had 7 saxophones in the beggining of the year. Now we are down to 6. Our old catsh phrase was "7 Deadliest Sins" but now we only have 6... So what do you guys think should be our new catch phrase? Post some ideas...

Caleb Raider

Guys, I talked to Caleb over the week-end and it wasn't his fault that he had to quit band, he's still one of the seven deadliest sins as we all are and will forever remain, no matter what happens to any of us.
I think we should make Caleb a card telling him that we miss him...

HALLOWEEN STUFF

GUYS (and Lisa and Corneshia) WE NEED TO GET HALLOWEEN COSTUMES READY.
Marcus Lisa and I have developed a plan to win the competition against all the other sections. We will win the prize and if we don't then we all have sunset for the rest of the year... JUST KIDDING!!!!

I'm gonna talk to Mr. McDaniel sometime this week and get our idea accepted... I can't say what our idea is because trumpets are very nosy and might try to steal our idea, but I hope ya'll don't mind wearing a little make-up...

IT IS HERE... the minute you have all been waiting for!!! Our first FOOTBALL GAME of the 2008 season. All of your hard work and preparation is going to pay off on Friday night as the Talladega Tigers open the season against Smith Station at our very own Mary Dumas Stadium. How exciting to put everything together and finally have a chance to present it to a home audience.

A few reminders....

  • When you leave school on Friday ... Take your instrument with you!! Do not leave it at the school. (you laugh... it happens)

  • Uniforms will be in the ZEJH Bandroom. Because they are using Dixon while doing renovations on Graham we will have to make adjustments.

  • All band members will meet at Dixon for warm-up. Warm-up BEGINS at 5:30.... be early... do not get in the arc late.

  • Please remember that you will need BLACK SOCKS!

  • Don't forget your MUSIC for the STANDS! (flip folders everyone!)

  • Come prepared to have a GOOD TIME!

Marching Band!

It's 90 degrees outside, everyone is staying inside at all costs, and what do bands do? Get out there and march and play so that they can present an entertaining show for each and every football game and practice until its perfect enough to take it to competition.

Most of the time this entails standing in a position, responding to instructions as you move from position to position and somehow playing at the same time, then doing it over and over again until you have as perfect as possible.

Have you ever wondered how all of those little dots get on the paper, or how you are told where to go. Is it magic? Here is an interesting website that gives you a small and fun glimpse into the production side of the Marching Band Show process. Click here

Here you can watch shows that other people created, as well as create your own show. Its a fun way to try your hand at creating a marching band show and going wherever your imagination leads!

Enjoy!
